Die Saline Luisenhall in Göttingen ist Europas einzige noch existierende Pfannensaline. Dort wird noch wie vor 150 Jahren Salz produziert. Vor 250 Millionen Jahren entstand die Natursole aus Ablagerungen von Meerwasser. Aus dieser Natursole wird nach einem aufwendigen 24-stündigen Pfannensiedeverfahren das Tiefensalz geerntet.

Das feine Tiefensalz wird komplett OHNE chemische Zusätze hergestellt. Es ist das Universalsalz in der Küche und wird in der Regel zum Kochen verwendet. Das Salz sollte bestenfalls in einem weiten Topf/Gefäß aufbewahrt werden, so dass es mit den Fingern entnommen werden kann. Daher hat es auch den Namen "Fingersalz". Da es keine Zusatzstoffe zur besseren Rieselfährigkeit enthält, ist das Salz im Salzstreuer nicht zu empfehlen. Es würde darin verklumpen.
